Terminology

Words that will reference, full post on them maybe eventually.

Maladaptive Behaviors:
Umbrella term for any behavior that doesn’t have an evolutionary benefit. Examples of this are suicidality,
I don’t use this term as much because it has some strange implications (potentially pro-rape and murder, though it could be argued that breaking societal norms is evolutionarily disadvantageous) and may be a rationalization for demonizing “unnatural” but without directly ascribing a moral value to it. So I’m not sure how useful it is as a concept but I think it’s still interesting.

Proxy Values:
Moral, social, or political values that don’t directly accomplish what a person wants, but lead towards something they actually value. Baudrillard may have already talked about this, in his terms it would be a “second-order simulacrum”. Example of this would be republicans being pro deportation. Deportation is unlikely to fix drug, employment, or welfare spending for healthy employable people issues, but it is a second order value that implies fixing these things. Arguably these are third order values because people only care about those issues because these imply: unsafe living conditions (security), being able to find a job (stability), US government’s ability to continue to exist (stability). A lot of modern politics is arguing over these proxy values while (willfully?) ignoring why they are held. Example, liberals seem to think republicans just hate brown people. Good article on the subject which refers to them as “symbolic politics”. Partisanship heavily benefits from this idea since it reduces everything into simplistic talking points which encourages people to yell the talking points at each other without anything to really back it up, which causes no actual discussion to happen since neither party really knows what they’re talking about.

Valid Targets:
People are opposed to harassment and violence in a majority of cases, but will make exceptions to people who they believe deserve it. This can particularly be seen with pedo hunter content and general harassment of ex criminals and exploitation of current drug addicts. May be a required part of human psychology to need an enemy to work towards beating.

Misc Ideas

Random thoughts that may be expanded into full posts.

Death penalty more morally right than life sentencing:
If we have decided locking people up for life is acceptable, might as well execute them. Imprisonment is a bigger net negative than death.

We’re told raising kids is more expensive than it is:
Think it’s a psyop that rasing kids is expensive. Fear mindset to increase pacificity and selfish behavior.

2020s and hatred of the flesh:
2020s movies seem to hate the idea of being human. Compare and contrast with 2000s movies and pinku films.

What separates humans from animals is the drive to make life easier at some future date. Ex: planting crops, building a wall

Seems like a lot of life is people intentionally choosing to make life more difficult for themselves but in ways they can win (hobbies). Talk about how Maslow relates to this idea.

Charlie Kirk and proxy values.

Patriotism is good because it is the country that you live in. America was built on the idea that the people can make it a better place, even if the avenues we were given aren’t great.
